Pulled all the wires from the ECU to the Engine bay. Time to make a new hybrid harness for the 1UZ.

So the 1UZ has way too many relays, so out with the original 1st gen fuse relay box and it was replaced with a 2nd gen 4runner fuse relay box. The 2nd gen gave enough relays and fuses to run the 1UZ and the bonus was it fit in to some existing holes with out major modifications.

The 2 gen fuze box had a bonus and had 2 relays, one to run the electric fan conversion which gave just a little more space for the motor to come forward and clear the fire wall, the second relay will now become a spare for a LED light bar or something at a future date.

Decided to upgrade the wires while inside the fuse box and started a big 3 up grade

Took a break from wiring and figured it was time to build a transfer case mount.
took measurements several times then took them again

made a template out of card board. wanted fuller coverage so it was a mount and skid with a slight angle.

mocked up next to the next to the 3/8" steel. if it is good enough for bud built, its good enough for me

Took it to the local steel shop and had them do just do the bend on their machine.
Cut out holes for the transfer case mount, then measure it versus the OEM mount to be able to use the factory mounting points but hit the correct spot for the 1UZFE set up. Notice the mounting point sits several inch further toward the rear.

Gonna have a LOT of questions for ya when I start mine!!!

First question now is, was the massaging of the firewall unnecessary in the end, since you are going to run an electric fan? Or, did you still need the extra bit of room to make it fit?

Just drove close to 2000 miles round trip in 3 days to get these things:

Yep! That's not one, but TWO of them there! One's going in my '85 supra, the other will eventually go into the '87 xtra cab, but I'll be doing the supra first.

hard to see it but there is a slight angle and the coverage was more than expected, plus OEM mounting and OEM transferase isolator.

Shortened the rear drive shaft, the shop even put in extra slip incase of a 3" lift

Then extended the front drive shaft to keep 4wd and everything working.

now for top side fun. had to make and adjustment for the auto shifter and new 4wd shifter. The one used for the swap was a T100 3.4 v6 tail housing and transfer case to keep the auto and everything smog legal.

drilled out and trimmed and moved back towards the rear due to longer 1UZFE set up

so the shifter didn't quite fit so needed to make and adjustment to keep it stock looking. so measured twice and cut it to extend

welding in the extension piece to the piece that was cut off and loosely assembled to check it is looked OEM... pretty close. so now "Sleepy" build is turning into a sleeper truck with a V8

Any plans for a skid plate for the back of the tcase? Look like its hanging quite a but lower than the plate.
 
once it gets California bar'd and smog legal, just the process in this state to make it a DD

inchworm pre runner adaptor and 4.7 gears and a tummy tuck, is on the list
 
So played around with the radiator and seemed like OEM fit the best.

figured the OEM V6 radiator didn't have the cooling capacity so, had it re-cored to 5 core and added a elbow at the top to match routing lines easier to keep A/C

Mocked up slim line 16" low profile puller fan and OEM radiator shroud. Massaged the shroud a bit for clearances

Dropped in and hooked up new hoses. Looks pretty OEM to me

Sorry late was late night post

The raidator shop called it a 5 core, but basically the shop expanded the factory tanks and put a baffle splitting both tanks. Need to do that to keep the routing since both elbow were placed at top. Then there was a trans cooler in the raidator. So essential there is like 5 mini tanks linked by 4 rows of fins. Adjusting the OEM raidator was the best option with out cutting or moving radiator to front, still trying to keep A/C components.

Also on the return side the electric fan sensor bung was tapped in.

The 1uzfe OEM clutch fan turned on at 205 and off at 185, closest after market was on at 195, off 185. Probably wouldn't hurt since the engine bay is tight and the extra air movement would keep it close to OEM temps. Time will tell.
 
seriously speechless over this swap...

I'm over here complaining about installing a little ol' field monitor unit.

can't wait to see this thing burn out
 
Back to wiring....Pretty much all the rest of the wires from motor that need to go to the ECU. The 1UZFE has trac control.....

So back to getting a little closer, making sure the signal is there from ECU and the cluster works.

The Center console and 4wd shift looks pretty stock, Hard to tell to the un-trained that its been modified.

Also seems like everything is connecting and lighting up like it should. The cluster is hidden nicely when off but kind of gives away that something has been modified when on. Still pretty OEM to those un-initiated to 1st gen 4runners.
