I have searched many sites on how to replace both the driver

The problem I am having is that I can't get the snap ring back on the shaft. Yes I am using snap ring pliers. I just can't get the outboard side of the shaft to come out of the hub enough to get the snap ring on.

Yeah, that explains it better. I kinda thought that's what the problem was but I wasn't sure.
When you put it all back together maybe you put something on in the wrong order or and extra something (washer, for example)that's spacing the shaft inward just enough that the snapring groove isn't fully exposed ?
Also, you can screw a bolt into the end of the shaft and pull outwards on it. The threads are either 6mm x 1.25 or 8mm x 1.50, can't remember which.

I had the same problem. There should be a little play when the snap ring is in place. What my problem was (stupid me) I tried to put the new dust seals into the old ones. Once i removed the old dust seals then put the new dust seals in the snap ring had no problem going into place.

Thank you for the responses. I have tried having someone pull on a bolt I screwed into the end of the outboard end of the shaft, while someone else pushed the shaft from behind the hub and no dice. I wish there was some kind of puller I could use to pull the shaft out of the hub further to get the snap ring on.
Anyone else have any other suggestions or ideas?

Do you still have access to the old shafts? Can you take the new one out and compare to the old, maybe taking some pics for us? Also, can you take some detailed measurements for lengths? Maybe the rebuilt are the incorrect part in the box compared to the label (I've had that with brake calipers.)
Can you take pics along the way and do a writeup of this repair for those of us that may need to do this in the future? Did you have to drain the front diff in order to do the shafts?

Hello,
No fluid comes out of anything when replacing the shafts. You may loose some grease from the hubs but that is it. Both the original Toyota shaft and the NAPA shaft are the exact same. I will do a write up once I get this problem figured out.

Hey, great post!! I'm havin' the same issue with mine. I changed both cv's and have run into the same problem. also tried a "puller" bridged across the wheel hoping to get the axle out enough to get the spacer and snap ring on....didn't work. was tryin to find some info when i found this post. some great info,have to look at the dust boots, but afraid there may not be much "play" once the clips are installed. Anyway please let let me know if you can get this figured out, and I will be happy to do the same.
