Has anybody tried this mod on a 4runner? I used to have a couple of older Subaru station wagons that used the 9004 bulbs. On one of them I swapped in the 9007's and had a bit more light than before. It could have been that the old bulbs were just that, old. The connector is the same and one of the locating tabs is the same on both bulbs. The differences between them are:
Filament orientation is horizontal for the 9004 and vertical with the 9007
The high beam and ground wires, IIRC, need to be switched on the wiring harness
Two of the three locating tabs need to be filed or ground off to allow the 9007 to fit securely inside the headlight assembly. I think the top is the one that stays...
Here's a link to my original post on a different forum about it. 9004 to 9007
I still have the Subaru, even if its totaled, so I can reexamine the headlight wires to verify which ones need to be switched. Its not too hard of a mod to do. I think it took me about an hour to do both sides on my Subaru mainly because I soldered and coated the new connections with liquid electrical tape.
My real question is whether it will make much of a difference or not. Has anybody done this already and what were the results?
Thanks!
