It's the one your truck was delivered with, the JDM Denso 90915-20004. It's bigger than the -yzzd1 the dealer will sell you and a hair bigger (I think) than the V8 -yzzd3 filter. I have only seen pics of the -yzzd* filters, never even touched one. They are hard to get in this country. So the dealers use a smaller filter than toyota puts on at the factory? That seems dumb what do the dealers save .25 per oil change.

Toyota needs to have multiple vendors/sources to be a healthy company. We get the short end of the stick on the filters. Any U.S. dealer will tell you the 90915-20004 supersedes to a -yzzd3. If they look it up by application it comes out to be a -yzzd1 or -yzzd3.

Thanks for the info Chris nex time I get the oil changed o'm asking for the 20004. Do they have to order them or is that a filter you found they have in stock?

Any U.S. dealer will tell you the 90915-20004 supersedes to a -yzzd3. If they look it up by application it comes out to be a -yzzd1 or -yzzd3.

Are you absolutely sure about that? I have an '04 and I remember when I did my first oil change, I purchased an OEM oil filter from the dealership for $5.00. When I got back to the house and unbolted the oil filter than came on my 4Runner from the factory, I noticed it was a different part number than the one the dealer gave me. I compared the two filters side by side and they seemed to be identical in length and width. I just figured at the time that the original filter had a part number they use in Japan, but was otherwise the same as the filter the dealer sold to me.

There was a lot of threads on this right after the '03's came out. My '03 came with the 90915-20004 installed, and the first two dealer filters I purchased were the same. Then they switched to the replacement, and told me the 90915-20004 was no longer available. The 90915-2004 was about 50% more expensive than the replacement model. Way back then, there was a thread with a link to a guy who had cut a bunch of different filters apart to see how they were constructed. As I recall, the 90915-20004 had a 'felt' type of filter media, which looked to be superior to the pleated paper filter of the replacement model. It became very difficult to locate the original filters, and any found were very expensive, compared to the easily available oem replacements, so I eventually stopped looking. I had forgotten all about this issue, and have been using the YZZD3 filter ever since.
