90k Major Service

I'm getting close to this service. Anyone have any tips for minimizing the pain at the service center? I know the plugs have to be changed. Is there a better plug than standard?

Also, if anyone has had this done, what did it cost? :bonk:

2003 V8 Limited 4WD.

The best way to get what you need is to itemize the work you want done using your Maintenance Guide. If you just go in and ask for the "90K service", the dealer will probably add extra unnecessary tasks that will jack up the price.

Yeah, I had planned on that. Is this a service that could be done by any reasonable mechanic? I have a good guy, but I would still feel a little better if there was a real Toyota guy doing it.

Aren't the plugs Iridium, which can go to 110k or something like that?

The only challenging thing on the 90K service for the V8 is the timing belt. TeryT is right - plugs aren't due until 120K. Otherwise it's a bunch of fluid changes and lube chassis. I think the trans still had a dipstick in 03, so even that should be straight-forward if you choose to drop the trans fluid.

My 03 has a dip stick, and I prefer the do-it-yourself capability, because of heavy towing.

I think I will pull the plugs at 90 to 100k myself. It just scares me to leave them in that long. They may not be easy to remove sitting in there that long?

Why do today what you can do next year!? Pay me now or pay me more later. Hard work pays off in the long run, but goofin' off pays dividends right now!

I had this brilliant idea that I would remove the plugs at 50k to place a tiny bit of anti-seize on them
