90k mile tune-up

I read part of the other thread involving a 90,000 mile tune-up question and the associated costs.

However, my mechanic said that my tune-up would be around $2000 (ballpark) because of other items that need to be replaced at this time, timing belt, water pump, etc. Can someone please either tell me (or at least point me in the right direction) as to what really needs to be replaced and worked on. I can read the OM, but I came here for some from-experience advice. I also don't want to do things that I did at the 60k tune-up that aren't necessary at 90k but "recommended" by a mechanic.

I have a 1998 T4R with 92k miles. Thanks.

I am guessing that you have a 3.4L v6 correct? My Tacoma is having it's 90K tuneup soon and this is what I am going to do. Timing Belt, water pump, new thermostat, new upper and lower radiator hoses, new cam and crankshaft seals, new ac/ps/alt belts. Then its oil change, transmission drain and refill, and rear differential change. New sparkplugs and plug wires, fuel filter, lube the driveshaft and yoke, clean throttle body and MAF. I think that about covers it. Now I am doing all of this myself and parts for all of this will cost me about $420. Labor is a beyotch that is why I am doing it myself. Its not hard and takes common hand tools and torque wrenches. But hopefully it gives you an idea of what needs to be done.

Your welcome, but if you do decide to do this work yourself, find a field service manual with the howtos and torque specs otherwise you will break a bolt. Not to mention that the crank bolt needs to be torqued to 213 ftlbs. You might be able to find one for the tacoma online which is basically the same engine. Just be creative in your search. My work won't allow me to access this site, but it used to have the online manual in pdf form that works. Maybe its still there
