Hello Everyone,
I'm an original owner of a '91 4rnner w/ 246k miles. I was thinking about getting a new car but she still runs well and the new SUV's these days have all kinds of frills I don't care for. So I'm thinking about keeping her and putting a new engine in it.
Can you recommend a reputable shop in San Jose, CA area that specialize in this kind of work. I want to do it right so I don't want to skimp on it. How much can I expect to pay for a top rate job?
Also what kind of "sensible" enhancement are available to get more power out of it w/o going crazy. I want to keep it stock for the most part and pass smog.
Should I also look into some transmission work while I'm at it. I replaced the synchro few years back but sometimes I have to try it a few times to get it in first.
Btw, this site is great. I've learned a lot here.
Thanks for your input.
