91 4rner - what will give me 50 extra HP ?

Ive got a 91 4runner with the 6cyl and im planning to have the engine swaped out with a remanufactured toyota motor from a local shop. However, id like some suggestions for boosting the horsepower by 50 or so. Where is the first item to consider ?

if you are going to do an engine swap anyway, why not upgrade to the 3.4 while your at it? it will cost a bit more but if you want more horsepower it would be worth it.

When did they start making the 3.4L ? I wasnt aware you could put one in a 91 4Runner. Will all of my other accesories bolt right back on, such as AC etc ?

They started making the 2.7l 4 cylinder and the 3.4l 6 cylinder engines in the tacoma models that came about in 95.5.

The 3.4 swap is a very popular swap and will give you the horsepower and reliability you're looking for.

Im looking at about $2800 for a swap for a new 3.0 VZE at a local shop to do all the work.

How much more for the 3.4L and how much "custom" fitting needs done ? Im not sure I can find someone local to do it. I will check though.

The website also makes note that the transmission in my 91 wont work, as is.

It just so happens that I will need tranny work soon too, so this might be a good time to do both.
