91 4runner a/c fan runs after ignition turned off

This AM I drove to work in the typical Seattle 40 degree cold and rain. I definitely was not running the A/C. After parking at work and turning off the ignition, I heard a loud noise that sounded like a leaf blower. The noise sounded like it was coming from the auxillary A/C fan in front of the radiator. If it was the aux A/C fan, 1) why would it be running if the A/C was not used? and 2) why would it continue to run after the ignition had been turned off?
After waiting for about 90 minutes, I returned to find the noise had stopped. I restarted the 4runner - no noise. I turned off the ignition - again no noise. Apparently back to normal. Any ideas. Thanks.

Aux Fan

I believe most trucks/Cars will run this fan if the engine is off if the Computer feels that the engine is too hot.

The old 92 Landcruiser has a sep system that comes on when the truck is off. My Vovlo S80 does the same thing you are describing even when the engine is off. All depending on the temp.

It may be a big deal... I'd check the coolant level and watch the temp needle for a few days just to make sure it was an anomaly.
