91 Toyota 4Runner - Knock Sensor

Afternoon,

I need some help with my 4Runner.
The engine light (knock sensor) comes on when I rev the car quickly in park. If I rev it gradually to 4000 RPM the light doesn't come on. The light also comes on when I go to take off as well.

If I turn the car off then on again the light doesn't appear.

Any ideas on what the problem could be?

Try changing your fuel filter and checking for vacuum leaks. Also check you clips on your injectors, they can loose the clips and the rattle around and make you loose an injector when the engine vibrates enough.

The wire that goes to the knock sensor gets old and brittle and breaks/cracks. My guess would be that wire is failing.

Im assuming you are talking about the 3.0 v6?

Thanks for your replies.

Hyde802 - Yep it is a 3.0 / 6cyl. If the wiring was faulty I think the light would show all the time... but that's just a guess.

TOY2G - I've meaning to change the fuel filter so I'll get onto that and re-check the injector plugs.

Whats got me scratching my head is that the engine is running very well.

I'll keep you guys posted.

Thanks again.

Ok update time.

I've checked for vac leaks, injectors, changed fuel filter and the light is still appearing............ anymore ideas....anyone??
