So, I have a 92 4Runner, 3VZE, auto.
Just recently we had the engine rebuilt (and this thing has been nothing but problems for me since)
Anyways.
Back story
I drove on the highway, about 1.5 hours out of town, on my way back, the transmission wasn't shifting properly. I immediately pulled over, checked the fluid and it was slow, so I put some fluid in and carried on my merry way. The drive back seemed fine. The next day, I drained all the fluid (I did not measure how much came out, but it was less than what should have been in there), and I refilled it.
Currently
I am having problems getting it to shift into 4th gear. It is sticking in 3rd gear, with RPM's going as high as 4000 (doing 90kmh).
Also, my fluid is dissappearing somewhere, and we cant figure out where it is going. There are no leaks that we can see on the underside at all. We had the fluid full, and then added a transmission fluid additive, so it should have been full... and when I checked after a couple days of driving, it was down to mid cool section, with a hot engine.
I don't know much about transmissions at all, especially these ones. I did try turning the OD off, and it slower to moderate speeds, it seems to be shifting alot more normally. When the OD is on, is when it seems to not want to shift. I don't know if that is coincidence or not.
Does anyone have any ideas for me to try?
If its a tranny rebuild, I will be out of luck for a while, as we just did the engine, we don't have the money for a trans now too.
Any suggestions? Could the fluid be leaking into the torque converter or the transfer case? Linkage stuck? Solenoids not working?
