What it is?
I searched for a while with no luck, so here it goes...
I have a 92 v6 SR5 4x4 that, for a while now, has been losing trans fluid. My AT TEMP light comes on and I'll add some pints. Every few times when the light comes on, it starts sprayin out the back while I'm driving. I think I figured this out.
I checked out the transfer case level and it poured out near a gallon!! It seems that when the AT fluid heats up and thins out, it starts to seap into the transfer case untill the case is so full it spits out the top and out the back. Now I thought I could split the transfer case and the trasmission. But after unbolting what was needed, i was unale to split the cases. I went to the dealer and bought two different seals and he gave me a diagram that didnt look quite right. turns out he gave me the manual trans pic. After callin around, I was told that with AT the transfer case is part of the AT assembly.
So does this mean in order for me to change the seal, the trans has to be removed and rebuilt?
If so, do you think that shops would charge for the rebuild or would they just get into the transfer case to change the seal?
