94 audio upgrade

Solike many of the threads out there, I'm looking to upgrade my audio system because 1) current one can't handle ANY bass, and 2) I'm pretty sure the "upgraded" is past it's prime. It has an aux jack but the quality from it is sickening to listen to. Can anyone recommend a nice HU to install and potentially an amp, I'm looking for mid teir type equipment.


Also is a keyless entry system hard to install? I haven't really looked much into it but living in park city makes me wantto have a warm come to walk in to!

I'd check out Crutchfield and see what they have to offer. See what is in your price range.

How much are you looking to spend?

To get better sound your going to need new speakers. You can amp them if you want to, but you don't have to.

I wouldn't really try a remote start unless you were pretty confident in what you were doing.

I'm upgrading a 93 4runner, Audio wise, i decided to go ....

HeadUnit - JVC Arsenal KD-AHD69.....it had everything i wanted for under $200 bucks. Crutchfield, they give you everything you need, so for the Headunit, i would go there.

Speakers - I headed over to OnlineCarstereo.com. Free Shipping over $100 in the cart I got Clarion 4" upfront for 29, and Diamond Audio 6" components for the rear area... Crutchfield wants way too much for there spkrs in my opinion.:violin:

Subs&Amp, i already own all that, but trying to squeeze a 12" stealthbox in the rear is going to be very tricky, but i got two high quality subs that are just chilling in storage, so i'm going to try to put one to good use...:50cal:

Good luck and let us know what you find and how your install goes. Everything is still factory on mine, the fronts are already pulled out and they had nothing left for a surround..no wonder they sounded horrible...lol.

Alright so I went to best buy just to scope out HU and stuff. Talking with a geek squad guy kinda got me pointing in the direction of upgrading my speakers first to see what that will do before jumping in. I've already taken the back panel off before so I know how to get in to the back there. But what about the front speakers? Will I need to remove the front dash or justtje speaker cover? Also I want to do the install myself, is it as easy as picking tw correct speakers and resoldering the aftermarket ones in?

You said that you put 6" components in the rear. Did you mean 6 1/2" comps in the back? I found that 94's have 5 1/4's in the rear, I'm assuming that the 93's have the same speaker specs. Did you do a custom install on those 6's?

Well, after purchasing the speakers last Thursday, I've actually been able to install them. So I installed the 4" Pioneers today, and not knowing much about car audio, it actually went quite well. There were a total of 4 screws and 1-10mm bolt on the driver side, then the speaker was just held in by 2 screws, unscrewed them crimped the 2 wires together, put them back in and bolted it all back up.

As far as the passenger side, I think total there were 3 screws, and 1-10mm bolt holding the glove box up and the attached dash portion. Once that came out, there were 3 screws holding in an actual speaker housing, cut those wires, spliced the new ones on, bolted it all back up.

Overall I would say it was a success, it was my first attempt at car audio, it all works, and I didn't lose or break anything in the process. Next on the agenda is going to be doing the 2- 6.5" speakers in the back and to see if I can actually get some bigger ones in there!
