94 premium stereo wiring harness?!

im trying to install my new alpine cda-9856 in my 94 runner and the wiring harness i bought doesn't work. on the back of the package it said it would fit my 4runner, but it's still the wrong setup. my dad, who works at the dealership where we got the car, said that it had the "upgraded" stereo and so maybe it had a built-in amplifier. has anyone else had to deal with this? the adapter thats in the car now has 15 pins and the harness i got at walmart (and maybe thats the problem), there's a 4, 5, 9, and 10 pin plug. please help!
edit: ok i think i figured it out. im pretty sure i need to put the factory amplifier back in and get the scosche faita02 adapter. that has 15 pins and has an end that will match the wiring kit that i bought. but if anyone else can help me or confirm this, it would be awesome.


also, on a side note, does anyone have a remote that would go with my head unit? i would need the rue-4187 or rue-4202.

Once you pull the small remote amplifier you should have the std 2 plugs that the non-OEM radio plug adapter kits will plug into. They were used from like '87 til 96 or so. The smaller plug is for rear speakers. For resale - your old radio is near worthless with out the Yota amplifier and they are costly from ota.

i ended up taking the amplifier out and i found the 2 plugs. but now, the rear mids don't get power when im playing a cd. my friend who's done an install on a different runner said that there's a wiring kit that i can plug in and still get the power to the rear speakers.

Yup and if you have a power antenna it too probably doesn't work properly. Wiring colors in harness are at http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/Toyota-Wiring.pdf
and that may help in getting accessory controlled 12v to the "mini" amps in the rear speakers casing. I think I'd just replace those 10 year old small speakers with larger (6.5") rear speakers. My '90 Rnr didn't come with rear speakers - I ordered Sony 3-way (6" round) speakers from Crutchfield and it came with plastic mounting pieces as well as detailed intructions on getting to the old speakers --- as well as a wiring pigtail for the speakers to the OEM wiring.
