I have a 94 CA emission V-6 that has a strange howl from the front of the motor when cold. Once the motor warms up, the sound goes away. Also, once the engine speed goes above 2500 it goes away.

any thoughts?

Sorry, I had to cut my post short due to my work.

to continue, a couple of weeks ago, a chirping noise started under the hood in similar conditions (engine cold...). It has now progressed to the howling noise.

My initial thoughts are the following suspects:
1. Fan clutch
2. Water pump
3. Can bearing
4. Bearing on another accessory (power steering, A/C, etc.)

I am not leaking/losing water, I am not running low or high on voltage, and my oil pressure and water temperatures appear normal. There is a slight miss in the motor, but it needs some maintenance on the fuel injectors and ignition (plugs, wires).

I had that chirping/slight howl. the water pump AND the tensioner pulley seized - eating the timing belt. I'm now replacing the belt and all the other bad parts.
