95 3.0 V-6 Detonation Problem

I have a problem I need help with. The motor starts easy enough, and idles smooth. Under light throttle, in nuetral, it starts to run rough. On the road, under load, it has detonation. I have changed the coil, rotor, cap wires, plugs, fuel filter and air filter. I know detonation is caused by poor fuel or bad timing. Can an oxygen sensor cause this problem?

Any input would be appreciated.

Try using 93 octane. Is your O2 bad? bacause if it is, the comp doens't know how the engine is running. doesn't know if it rich or lean.

Hello, I am new to the forum. I have been a certified (GM, Ford, Chrys) auto tech for twenty plus years. I also have a 95 with a 3.0 that had very similar symtoms. It took me almost a week to find the problem. It was the 'Cold Start Injector Time Switch' mounted behind the upper air intake. If you unplug the injector at the right hand side of the upper air intake (Center from front to back) the symtoms may go away but it will spin over longer before it starts in the mornings. The switch cost $100 - $120. It looks very similar to the coolant temp switch located in the same area. Try this and if it works I will send you more details so you can figure out witch one it is (wire color). It's not that hard to replace yourself. You will lose a little coolant but it will solve your issue.
