Both codes involve the ECU. SO, I suspect... About 220000 miles, have ran great until... I ordered the Bosch platnum +4 plugs from a dealer online. Gave the correct info/part number sent me the wrong plugs.. I didn't check the plugs, the guy has always sent the right stuff before. Anyway, after putting them in, and drive 100 or so miles the check engine light comes on. the code was 71- EGR System. I looked and there was a vaccum line off on the passengers side, but not connected to the EGR. I remembered that there were 3 vac lines together that I had accidently pulled trying to get to the passenger side plugs, and had put them back on but was unsure of the exact positioning. I figured Vac lines are vac lines (probably the big mistake) and just put them back the way they seemed to fit best and didn't worry about it. After the check engine light and diag, I tried to find the proper way for them to go on and could not. There are two sets of 3 Vac lines that are bundled together on the passenger side. 1 is located slightly higher than the other. It's the lower set that I need to know what number goes where. They go to vaccum switches/sensors on the fender well...
Well anyway, I went to O'reilly's and got a set of NGK Iridium plugs after I decided that I didn't check them so I better, and discovered the wrong plugs. then replaced them. I checked for disconnected anything in the engine compartment after replacing the plugs, and everything was good. I reset the code, and drive, about 150 miles the check engine light... This time I get code 14, and code 71... I also, have a miss on cylinder 4. Checked it and got about 50lbs compression... Thinking maybe stuck lifter/valve since it had not gotten proper spark before... Not sure, probably didn't notice the miss after replacing with the NGK plugs.. 14-Ignition Coil or curcuit, ECU. 71 the EGR system- EGR System, EGR Temp, Sensor or Curcuit, EGR BUSV or VSV or curcuit, ECU.
I looked at the common item between the two and found an ECU for $49 on EBAY.. I noticed while changing plugs that there is a sensor (?) with two wires coming out of the EGR system that had the casing/insulation/shielding messed up and the two wires (still insulated individually) exposed. Not sure... I'm kind of reaching, becouse it seems like it's something I did while trying to fit my big fat arms in there to change plugs, the first time. Anyway, that's where I'm at, I hope I didn't leave out any info. I hope someone can get me the vac line info. Maybe the info on something I may have knocked loose.. Thanks in advance...
