95 4 Runner 3.0 no start

thanks in advance... here is what I know:
It died on the road sputtering as if it ran out of gas (it didn't)
I replaced the fuel filter. Loosened the 17mm bolt where fuel line connects to fuel rail and found great pressure.
I disconnected the coil wire and found a good hot spark while cranking when held 1/2" from ground.
No noticible sound at all when key is turned to on. (No relay clicks)
No fuel pressure until engine has cranked 5 seconds.
Pulled #6 plug.. looked clean and dry
radiator looks clean and green but I see water circulates while just cranking cold (possibly unrelated tstat stuck or possible head gasket?)
truck never ran hot and oil looks like new
While cranking it sounds as if it wants to start. every third revolution it catches momentarily but doesn't start (Like a flooded carb)
I can smell gas after cranking 20 seconds. (This was before i loosened the fuel line mentioned above)
I jumped the Fp and B+ connector on the diagnostic port .still no start
I have limited tools and even more limited mobility so I am hoping it isn;t the fuel pump in the tank
thats all I can think of now.
it broke down 2 months ago but the weather made me wait till now so flooding is unlikely

First thought I get is a clogged catlytic converter. Yours sounds like a Mazda I used to have, a known issue for B2200 pickups.
But I have had a 4Runner for only several months so give more weight to the opinions that follow.

Experience tells me, get it towed to a shop. Could be the timing belt jumped a tooth, or worse. Stop throwing parts at it and get it to a shop for proper diagnosis.

thanks for the reply. I don't think it is the cat because it came on suddenly and had no loss of power minutes before it shut down. I know taking it to a shop would be easier, but I once was a mechanic and I would like to be able to fix it myself. Hopefully someone has another idea on what to try, but thanks again for responding.

Are you getting fuel out of the injectors?

how would I be able to tell? I smell gas after 20 sec of cranking, but the one plug I pulled was dry.

I sprayed starting fluid into the throttle body and still no start. Would this eliminate the question of injectors firing?
