95 4Runner Gears

So I pretty much can't? Lol cuz I was curious

Well, are you talking about differential gears or transfer case gears? Regearing your differentials isn't "easy" in terms of the skills needed, but it's straightforward. Regearing your transfer case is a different story - you can't regear the one that's on your truck now. You'll need to find a transfer case from behind a w56 transmission, buy 4.7 gears for that, install them or pay to install them, and then spring the $600 or so for the adapter to attach your new transfer case to the back of your existing transmission.

It can be done, but it isn't cheap.

Some reputable outfits like Marlin Crawler and Trail-Gear sell fully rebuilt T-cases with the upgraded gearing, but as Kid mentioned, you'll need an expensive adapter to mount it. The reason for all this trouble is that you can only upgrade a "gear-drive" T-case, and your Runner has the "chain-drive" unit. No one modifies the chain model. Once this change is made, though, it opens up many other possible mods, like double cases (for extreme crawler gearing), a special disc-style E-brake, etc..

p.s. The auto tranny requires a more complicated adapter installation, too--it's not just a bolt-on plate. You actually have to partially disassemble the transmission to make the change. The 5-speed model DOES just bolt up (provided you got the proper number of splines for the input).

I was curious because people say if you want more torque you should change the gears. And I'm looking to have more torque.

Jvalasky, you need to be more specific when describing what you're after. What exactly are you looking for, performance on the trail, on the street, or both? Your overall gearing is controlled by the axle differentials, which will affect performance everywhere, while T-case gearing changes will ONLY affect offroad use (you don't use 4LO on the street). If you want more torque in ALL situations, then you change the ring-n-pinions; but, keep in mind, this will affect your mileage and wear in everyday driving. Regearing the T-case will give more power on the trail without having any effect on street driving.
