95 4Runner Running Stiff and Heavy on Front Right.

Hi everyone,

I have a '95 4Runner and a couple months ago I replaced my inner tie rod ends, pitman arm, upper and lower ball joints, idler arm. Shocks within the last 7 months, and more recently rear shocks and coil springs within the last month. Power Steering pump and belt within the last 2 months.

I know the front upper control arm bushings are bad.

I was wondering if this or something else would be causing me to now feel like there is added weight on the right side of the car. As it rides very stiff and heavy on that side almost as if the brakes were dragging but the car doesn't pull and the wheels don't heat up.

It's been aligned a couple times since the front end steering and suspension components were in place

Check to see if the torsion bar adjuster has not broken. When I rebuilt our front end, replaced these. They have a tendency to snap when rusted or under too much stress.
You might have a seized shock, but I doubt it.

Is the torsion bar adjuster - the actual torsion bar or just another piece of the front assembly apart from the torsion bar and if so where in the assembly in regards to the bar and control arms would it be located?

Sometimes the weld might break towards the front of the bar(or truck), and or the adjuster itself snaps. I replaced the adjuster hardware on ours with factory parts when I installed sway-a-way units(25mm). If your under there looking, a break should be fairly evident.

Checked underneath and haven't noticed any evident cracks or breakage in the welding. However I also measured from the wheel to the rim of the well after driving all day and found multiple times the right front was higher than the left by about 1/4 to 1/2. Checked tire pressure and both are as equal as you can get them with a manual tire gauge.

Try jacking up each side and see how well the suspension compresses. If it compresses unevenly, take the shocks off and try it again. That'll rule out a bad shock. If taking the shocks off doesn't help, and the control arms move freely on both sides, maybe try swapping the torsion bars from left to right? That'd be a lot of work, but it'd tell you where the problem is, too.
