95 4Runner Starts then Stalls, IAC problem?

Running into a bit of a problem with my '95 4Runner right now. I tried starting her up, and everything seemed to work (idling at around 1.2k RPMs). A second or two later, the RPMs suddenly began to drop, and the car died. I tried it a couple times and had the same problem. I can give it gas and hold it above idle, but it will still die (in neutral, haven't had the guts to try this in gear). As a sidenote, the dashlights and other electronics all flicker when it starts to die, but remain on. The battery is pretty new and seems to be fine.

Here's a heads up on my recent use. In the last week I've driven it for about 1000 miles or so, which is the longest trip it's been on in a long time. Two weeks before that, I had the AC repaired (new expansion valve). Lately there has been a noticeable gas smell when idling.

I'd check for a vacuum leak

Start with basics:
1) check charging with voltmeter
2) check fuel pressure
3) as the other poster said, look for vacuum leaks.
Might be running too rich due to bad O2 sensor, or pump regulator starting to fail. Where are you smelling gas from?
