‘95 daily Runner Build

It’s about that time I actually intoduce my first 4runner I’ve owned. Back on Christmas Day of ‘17 I pulled the trigger on a ‘95 SR5 4runner. However this one is a bit different, what started life as a 3.0l auto 4x4, this one was swapped this a 3.4l. I was told it came out a ‘97 with only 5k miles... still not sure about all that. The auto was ditched for a 2nd gen manual trans. The truck was “lifted” with old fJ coils and the torsion bars cranked the the moon... here are a few pics of what she looked like when I got her.

Looks great! Nice to have that 3.4 done and out of the way - and the rear LC upgrade is another great thing to have done! Now just to sort out that overly stiff front end! Looking forward to seeing the progress on this one. Welcome to the 2nd gen crew!

Thank you O.B.A.K for the warm welcome! Now that I've had the car for a few months, I've been busy with some upgrades!

Added a roof rack, I picked up a Yakima Loadwarrior at my local Our Doors Inc. They looks so bare without something on the roof..

Sooo the Old FJ coils weren't cutting it with an extra 250lbs of dritbike hanging off the hitch so I picked up some OME 901 coils and shocks. The Internet will tell you to have a constant load of 300lbs while running these springs but i haven't had any issues yet. Given it does ride a little rough.

Thanks! the added HP is definitely appreciated, I took her on a 800 mile round trip to the coast and back and averaged 18mpg at a comfortable 80mph. 3.0s are fine and all but they are just pigs on the highway.

Here is my drawer system/sleep quarters I put together. I used polished plywood for the bottoms of the drawers. They slide great and utilized way more space than trying to fit rails. I used a second top deck that slides forward and locks in using a piece of angled aluminum on the back of the drawers and sit flush. Hinged legs gravity fall into place to sit level on the back of seats. Feel free to ask any questions.

Routed the handles and sanded the edges.

Here is the Bottom the the sliding sleeping deck. the legs were put at an angle to be more sturdy.

Installed. Sits flush when the back gate is closed to prevent any movement.

All 5'8 of me fits nicely.

Wrapped the tops in carpet. GF approved.

With 4'' tri-folding memory foam mattress, full sized.

Now that the Sleeping platform has been made, anther issue has surfaced. Rolling the rear window down from inside the cabin with out having to climb to the front and put a key in the ignition. The simplest solutions was to tap off the key switch on the rear gate to 2 momentary switches for up and down mounted on the inside.

Firts attempt was to tap off the relay, no success but at lease I now know how much room I really have behind all the plastic. Hmm, can you say air compressor???

You've made a very nice sleep/storage system, your craftsmanship shows through. The whole thing looks simple and functional which I find appealing.

I dig the auxiliary tailgate window switch you wired in. The buttons you chose are super sleek, much nicer looking than a rocker type switch.

Thank you, they are just generic ones from Auto Zone. They were $10 a pop, I'm sure they would be cheeper online but I needed the instant gratification.

I forgot to mention that the box itself is held in by a couple of turn buckles which makes it relatively easy to remove and very stable. I'm not sure if I want to stain it, I kinda like the bare wood look

Over due on posting something, Got the CB For the trails wired up and installed. This being a daily, I tried to make the cleanest mount I could. I picked up a little cheepo-depo Cobra Ultra 3 from my local Walmart (hate that place) for $40 and a decent antenna from a truck stop just on the out skirts of town. after playing around with mounts I found it was just the right size to fit in the center ash tray. My ash try was old and worn out, always slid open while driving so getting rid of it wasn't really a big deal to me.

Running the antenna was a trick. I had exactly 9' of cord to play with so options were limited. Decided to ditch my already broken radio antenna and mount it to the factory bracket. Ran beautifully through the hole in the finder and. I did add a tack screw to better secure the antenna bracket.

That's awesome. I've been working on adding a CB to fit under the stereo but the only single DIN sized ones seem expensive. Cool that one fits right in the ash tray slot. That might be the route I go. Good work.

Sliders are on! Went with the 4x Innovations weld on sliders. I had mocked these up in the past but my little 110 wouldn't cut the mustard and had to borrow a friends 220.

I painted them Black but that didn't last long...

Awesome! Same exact ones on mine. I went with a 15 degree tilt and use Bedliner on them for grip. So far, love them.

Did a little spit polish to my 3.4. Anyone running skid pans and or know a good solution to not having wheel liners. My engine bay seems to be prone to getting super dirty.

Good looking runner. Ive been on the fence about adding a kickout to my sliders when i build them and seeing yours sold me on it lol.
