95 in 65 zone

I know everyone is going to call me dumb...but I wasn't paying attention at 12:30 am on Feb. 5, and I got a ticket going 95 mph on the 405 South in Fountain Valley (Orange County), CA. This is 30 mph over the speed limit. I heard something about this possibly being minus 2 points? Help me guys! I just got jacked:( .

Ha! I beat you...i got TWO tickets for driving 96 mph in 65 zone. You gotta admit that I am consistent!:D

Anyway, here in Texas, you can ask to be on probation (called "Deferred Adjudication"). That is, you cannot get another ticket for 3 months. If you do good during your probation, nothing will be added to your record. You do have to pay "administrative fee". However, this fee is a lot less than your ticket.:) To get this, you have to ask the judge.

BTW, by going this route, you do NOT have to take a driving ed class.

Traffic School?

So is 95 in a 65 beyond what you are allowed to take traffic school for? Or, have you already used up your traffic school option?
 
Thai, I bow down to your 96 ticket. "Deferred Adjudication" sounds like a good plan, but I hope California has that. And I'm not sure if I was going too fast to do traffic school. I have not used up my traffic school yet b/c we are allowed to do it every 18 months. So if it's just minus 1 point that's correctable by traffic school, i'm a happy kid. Does anybody out there know how California Highway speeding laws work? Thanks guys.

I don't know if things have changed, but I got a 95 in a 55 on the I5 near Valencia. I was actually going quite a bit faster and the cop wrote it down as 95+. I was able to do traffic school and nothing shows on my record. This was 7-10 years ago. Incidently, I think the speed limit is 65 in that area now. :D
 
I thought anything 25+ miles above the speed limit in CA and they can add something like a reckless driving charge to your speeding ticket.

My girlfriend got caught doing 105mph :eek: in a 65 on the 71 freeway near Chino (She said she was really sleepy and just wanted to get home).

She had 2 points added to her record and her insurance went way up.
 
Drive over 100 and it's reckless driving w/ 2 points (i think) and possible suspension of license.

Under that I think it's the usual 1 point w/ the $$$ up the ying yang.

I've done 100+ b4 but luckly the cop that pulled me over's speedo only registered to 85 so he just gave me a ticket for 85. He told me since I was nice enough to slow down once I saw the lights, he was gonna be nice too...

Expect the ticket to be in the hundreds (plural)... Good luck

Btw, traffic school (online) is the best!
 
I think it all depends on the State and the Judge you see. I got pulled for 95 in a 55 on I95 in Virginia. When I went to court the Cop wasn't there and every case the cop had that day pleaded guilty and only had to pay a $50 fine and court fees. Since anything over 80 in VA is reckless driving, I pleaded guilty paid my fine and went on my way. If a you are charged with reckless driving the cop can impound your car on the spot and throw you in jail, it is his judgement. I checked my record at DMV and they never deducted points and my insuarance never went up.

One of my buddies got clocked doing 105 in a 65 in the HOV lanes and he was sentenced to 7 days in jail. He only spent 4 days and was left off for good behavior... Just some different points to think about.
 
Traffic School.

The best thing to do is to go ahead and try to enroll in traffic school. They won't allow you to enroll if your violation is not covered by traffic school. Here is the OC web site with info about traffic violations and traffic school:

Lance is correct, you will be getting a bill in the mail for around $350+ for the ticket-could easily be more. You will have to take traffic school or get the point on your license

I think they can impound your car for 35+ over the speed limit...or it becomes 2 points...not too sure on the specifics but you were close to being put in jail.
You might be on the hook for 2 points but I'm not sure.

There is no delayed adjudication in California. If you want to take it to court, I think it's an extra month or 2 of waiting. But if you loose, I don't think traffic school is an option anymore (there is a time limit on traffic school).
 
In Texas, going 96 in 65 zone is too much for traffic school.:( BTW, i am driving slower than a grandma these days!:(
 
Here in NY that would be 8 points:) traffic school or defensive driving would remove 4 points;): but the insurance company would laugh at you cause they operate differently then the DMV so you still really have 8 points, oh and they would probably drop you, now your a high rish customer and your rates increase by 50-70% now if you wanna drink and get caught your rates increase by 90% for the next 10 years:D

But to avoid all that get a lawyer or plead like all hell with the cop to just pay a fine but not effect your insurance;): how I do it.

I have you all beat, 140 in a 65:D after all was said and done it cost me 1500 to walk away with no points ;):

My friend passed a cop doing 160, lights went on so he stepped on it, hit a bend in the road pulled off and the cop flew by waited a minute and pulled back on;):

Damn, what kind of car was he driving in to be going 160???

www.trafficschool.com ... I used that website about 3 years ago and it was great. Way better than sitting in a classroom all day. You can do it whenever you want, and you can even cheat by going back to look up answers during your tests :p

Was that in LA or Orange county. The traffic school rules in Calif. vary by county. The OC court website that I posted earlier says that you have to go to an NTSI traffic school and seems to imply that Internet traffic School is not available.

Last summer I got a speeding ticket on I-10 moments after I crossed the border into AZ. AZ also requires an NTSI traffic school but allows the course to be taken over the Internet. When I took the written test at the end of the course I had to find a Notary Public to proctor the test and certify that I didn't cheat - but then, after the Notary had affixed her seal to the test I was allowed by NTSI to take it home and FAX it to them from my home.
 
I got my ticket on the 5 heading up the South side of the Grapevine. I can't remember what county it was.

Why would you stop for the cop if your goin 140 in a 65 .. are you stupid?
