'95 Steering Shudder Question

I have a '95 4X4 Automatic. The last few days there has been what I would describe as a "steering shudder." Randomly the steering wheel will begin to shake pretty good. Sometimes it happens at 40 mph sometimes it happens at 70. Other times it doesn't happen at all. Usually when I back off the accelerator a little it quits...even when I speed back up.

I just had my tires rotated...not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Another thing is that the steering wheel has always vibrated a bit when I'm on the highway around 70 mph. I've just blamed the fact that it has AT tires on it. I bought the vehicle in August and had one of the idler arms replaced as well as the recall on the steering column (which included an alingnment.) That is all I can think of that might have anything to do with this issue.

The family and I are planning on taking it for a pretty long trip soon, but I want to get this problem figured out beforehand.

Any advice is much appreciated...this site has saved me a lot of money and headaches!

You need o rebalance the tires and alignment possibly start with them rebalancing your tires.

Check this out, I have the shake problem when applying brakes. I found a recall with the steering relay rod.

my vote goes to alignment all the way. the vibration at 70 is almost expected, i have 3 ppl with 4runners that all say that they have vibrated around 70 since the day they got the car.

Well was it doing it before you rotated the tires ???
