96 Key Fob - What am I missing?

Hi all,
Trying to add a remote fob to a 96 that came with the RS3000. Based on the thread below, I think I got what I needed, but I can't get it to program. I've done the step to remove old remotes a bunch, but it won't take the new one. Any advice?

While the fob you have pictured has the right FCC number, the right fob doesn't have the panic button in back and the two front buttons are not lock and unlock. The right fob should have only two buttons on the front and neither one of them have anything printed on them just like Street creepers pictures from his post. Of the two buttons on the front, the button closest to the red light does nothing unless you own a 2nd 4Runner, and then you can program it to lock and unlock the doors of that vehicle. Only the button farthest from the little red light locks and unlocks the doors. Weird I know, but that is how the RS 3000 functioned. I believe you have the wrong fob unfortunately.

Exactly. He needs the black (not grey) two-button RS3000 fob. This Toyota TSB shows the correct remote for '96-'97 in Fig. 3 on page 6.

Thanks guys. Yeah, that pdf seems to show the correct original/old version (2-button black). The thread I linked shows an update/superceding part, which was supposed to be more durable. My problem is, the one I got off ebay looks identical to the newer version (FCC# and all) - aside from the panic button and lock/unlock words. Seller's ad did list 96 RS3000, but his response has indicated he's happy he caught me in some fine print. Anyone need this 3-button?
