96 problem

Long time lurker, first time poster. I have an issue with my 96 Limited. It runs and starts fine but if I get over 45 MPH and floor it after the down shift it will seem like it is stalling. Sometimes I can even hear something that sounds like pre-detonation (pinging) or a mild backfire but that doesn't change with premium gas.

Any clues? The vehicle has 300,000 on it (or will in a couple days) and I'd like to get this fixed without spending lots of $$$.

check engine light coming on?? when was the last time you changed your plugs/wires?

No Check Engine lite on and last plugs and wires change was about 25,000 miles ago.

at that mileage, i would at least pull the plugs and see what they look like, if they are white, your truck is running lean. i would probably pull the injectors, and send them off to be cleaned. BTW, have you checked the simple stuff, like cleaning your MAF, and maybe testing the TPS to see if it is within range? How about the 02 sensor? There are lots of things that it could be without actually throwing a code.

do a search on "factory service manual" you should be able to find a link where you can download it. It will give you ways to test, the sensors with a multitester. If you just changed parts out, you will be spending lots of $$, unless you just get lucky.
