Someone in Colorado is selling this 1994 3.0L v6 4x4 4Runner with 220k miles for $4.2k on Facebook.
Looks like it grew up in California, 6 owners, no accidents.
Timing belt replaced 98k. Head gasket recall was done in 1997.
Failed emissions inspection in California on 05/17/2023.
I couldn't find any rust on the frame. There is rust on the exhaust and it's loud.
The engine had a bit of a tick, not sure if normal.
When I turned at full lock on the steering it made some noises.
Shifting seemed fine, it did stall on the first stop sign and again on a turn. Started right back up.
I was able to shift into 4L and 4H and they were engaging.
There was probably some small oil leaks in the engine and I assume the transfer case.
Emergency break worked, and reverse. Lights, etc. AC worked, I don't think the heat worked.
I braked from 30mph and it didn't shake too much.
The rear windshield wiper motor probably needs to be fixed, I couldn't unlock the back door or put that window down so that seems broken too.
CV boots aren't torn, it's 4.88 gear ratio as far as I can tell from the axle code.
Windshield is cracked, sunroof works. Interior looks good. Paint is really faded, clear coat is probably gone. Dash is cracked.
I plan on taking it to get a compression test on the cylinders and a pre-purchase inspection on Monday, will cost me $350.
I think I could talk them down to like $3.5k - the stalling concerned me. My brother thinks the milage is too high. I really just want it to be reliable off road, I have a daily driver - but I plan to have another vehicle with me too.
