97 4runner California Emissions

I am looking to buy a 5 speed '97 4runner. the others i have checked out have not been California emissions legal. is there a reason? are most like this from this year? would it be safe to say they are all the same?

Welcome! That's one out of 100 reasons why i left CA. They'll choke your emmissions. Heck, it's now illegal to have aftermarket exhausts, intakes, or any mods not in specs. :flamethrwoer2: CA DMV.

I live in Virginia and my 4runner is California emissions and the truck originally came from Maryland?? So they are out there, just hard to find!
