97 4runner sr5 v6 w/ 4wd. 160k

Well out of the blue this morning I started my runner and it sounded like it had no exhaust. So since I was running late I had no time to get under the vehicle and check.

it has no power, CEL light come on after about 5 mins of driving.

the runner does have some rust, so i geuss my exhaust could have rusted, but I think I wouldve noticed some kind of leak earlier.
I really hope its not my rings because I have no time to fix that!

is there any diagnoses I can do? I callED the mechanic at work but he couldnt look at it today.

could my exhaust be pluged? from a rodent or mufler/ cat failure(failing apart)?
I felt my exhaust and there is barely any coming out

" it sounded like it had no exhaust"

Do you think someone could have stolen your cat? I hear it happens alot!

From what you have described, its either your CAT took a walk or you have a hole big enough to throw a CEL. I can easily think of 100 to 300 reasons why someone would have taken your rusty CAT.

Well I do live close to a college campus so I geuss someone couldve jacked it.

once i get off work ill look into it more.

thanks for the replys

yup someone stole my cat.

Been there, with my 92. On it it was just a bolt in, with 4 bolts. Easy replacement, and I found all the flange connectors and stuff nearby.

I think the Gen 3's are weld-in, but when I had a new muffler welded into the 92 after the old one rusted out, it was only 40-60 bucks for the work, so not too bad.

I was going to weld the bolts on my 92 CAT on, but luckily I've heard that the non-OEM ones don't have all the platinum in them that the factory ones do....which is also the reason why 5 years ago I got a replacement for $80, while the Toyota replacement was $880!

Well they cut it off, including the o2. and no junk yards around here deal with exhaust. no muffler shops will work on it unless i get a new cat, so im pretty upset

Is your truck CA or federal spec.? I have an aftermarket cat with that was only on my truck for about 4 months so it's basically new still. I can cut a deal with you if you'd like. I have the sensor, too.
