I have a 97 4runner. This has happened about 4 times in 2 months. Occasionally when I start the vehicle after sitting overnight or at the end of day after work, the rear brakes are locked. I always use parking brake. After releasing the break, the dash warning light is still on and the engine is straining. First I though the cable was frozen, but not the case. If you try to drive forwards or backwards, you can tell the brakes are on. The engine does not sound right. After I turn the vehicle off and restart, everything is OK. There is some connection between the locked brakes and the engine noise. Took it into the local Toyota dealer, no problems found. But definitely when this happens, turning off the vehicle and re starting, fixes the problem. both myself and toyota dealer ruled out that the problem is with the parking break sticking. Can not make connection between engine rough idle and dash board break warning light. Any suggestions. Thanks
