i have a 97 4runner V6 5 spd, and ive owned it for 2 years theres almost 190,000 miles on it, the transfer case always leaked but recently in 4wd it got stuck and wouldnt go into gear. i got it towed brought it to the shop and they told me that the oil burned up and the transfer case and transmission was shot. they are replacing it now, but i want to know if this is a familiar problem and if with a new transmission and transfer case this same problem will not continue to happen. my engine runs totally clean it was half rebuilt before i bought it, so im hoping that it will pull through with new parts, but if not i want to stop while im ahead.

I'm not saying you're the "only person ever" but I don't recall reading about a similar problem. It almost sounds like it wasn't getting a steady diet of fresh fluid. The t-case, transmission and axles need to have fresh fluid every 30k-60k depending on usage and fluid type. If I were you I'd make sure the axles have fresh fluid too...

Good luck!
