97 fog light question

Hey guys. Are these factory fog lights or aftermarket? They really aren't in there very good (as you can see in the photos), and they don't work.

This 4Runner is new to me and I'm trying to clean it up a bit. Is there a good replacement for this? It looks like if I take them out, then it looks like that middle piece will just flop around.

I think the runner needs a bath!

Any thoughts on a replacement (either with or without the lights)?

Does anybody else have aftermarket fog lights here? If so, could you post a picture?

Thanks.

I had the same ones on my 97. Got tired of them shorting out and looking crappy, so I installed a set of old PIAA 510 (3" round) lights in there place. Direct bolt on, simple wiring and work great.

vie got a 97, and i wanna throw some lights on it, do you need to run them through an amp? Or just hardwire them to the battery?

I have the same fog lights on my 98 limited and think (correct me if I'm wrong) they are a factory option. They were offered as an extra from the factory even though they are Hella brand. I can't figure out why mine don't work. The relay is fine, bulbs are fine, wiring appears to be fine...I know I'll have to replace them too...

These are not aftermarket. They were a add on back in the day. My 4runner and some others ive seen have the same exact ones.

yes, there were definitely an option when purchasing a new 4runner back in the day and are hella branded. That is why there are convenient aux. light mounting holes on the front bumper to the left and right of the license plate.

Anyone had issues with them in the past and found a way to fix them? Is there a weak point in the wiring system? (Relay, cheap wires, etc)?

What's a good replacement?

Hi, I bought my 97 new, and it came from the factory with the rectangular fog lights and crappy inside switch.

I had them fixed once by the dealer (the switch broke). I've heard others say the grounding is poor.

Someone was really nice to me and smashed them both. Any idea how I can at least cosmetically replace them?

Thanks,

John

The Hella fog lights in the photo were a factory option. If they don't work then check the fuse. The relay that was used for this option was not sealed and after a while they rusted out from moisture and that also will stop them from working.

This is my second go around with this set of fog lights. I have already replaced the OEM lights once before. They were $36.00 each the first time from the Dealer.
Mine look like this and the fog lights are non working . I have a relay that I see is very rusted. The fuse holder and fuse above it is ok. I see a 30 amp fuse in the holder, is that right? The light switch is lit.
On to the relay / connector to see if it is the issue.
Also found two broken wires going to the connector down by the fog light, repaired it . Stay tuned!

You should custom install your own fog lights into the valance like blcktpgsr and I did! Hella micro DE's work awesome. And it looks factory
