97 limited rear end wobble

97 4Runner Limited rear end wobble. New Tires-repeatedly moved from back to front-re balanced. New rear shocks, sway bar links, sway bar bushings, u-joint. It's still there? Rear bearing has no play and isn't making noise? Please help 176k and I don't want to get rid of it but it's driving me crazy! THANKS!:violin:

maybe an axle. how does the pan hard bar look?

The axle does sound like the most likely culprit to me too. If the axle is bent, you should be able to jack it up and spin the rear tires and see some degree of wobble.

Or set your side-view mirrors down at the wheels and drive slowly to check for wobble. If so, the axle shaft may be bent where the shaft meets the hub.

I recently had the same issue....but mine turned out to be a bent rear end housing. I don't know how this happen because this car had the issue when I bought it. But like everyone has said check or change the axle first and hopefully this fixes your problem.

my 01 was swaying at highway speed especialy if there were "ruts" in the pavement. it turned out to be the lower control arms on the rear axle. with it parked in front of my garage on level pavement i could grab onto the tire and move the axle back and forth. i bought used arms from a crashed runner so i would have a spare set of rods. now i plan on having poly bushings made for my rods. if they come out good i may try to sell some kits. if you need to replace the bushings you can get them from toyota for about $30

if it's going from front to back, it's the same as mine before - try looking at the upper and lower control arm bushings...

on the other hand, if you are experiencing looseness also when turning while going over minor bumps, try to look at the pan hard bar...

my advise is to replace all of these bushings if you find one worn....the rest will give up eventually.
