97 SR5 wired for sideview mirror defroster?

In Canada, all V6 models in 99+ have the heated mirror. I can't remember about the 96-98 though. I'd have to check at work as I have the sales brochure's from 97-2000 saved on my work computer.

My '99 SR5 does NOT have heated mirrors. The spot for the fuse, which should be next to the 15A Rear Defog in the engine bay fuse box is empty. The wires might be in back, I don't know. The odds are they are there.

It would be a green/black from that fuse (10A) through a couple of connectors to each front kick panel and then through the door to each mirror, plus a white/black ground from mirror back to a ground point in each kick panel. In the fuse box, the feed to the MIR HTR fuse needs to be tied to output of the defog relay, as is the Defog fuse. So I would look for those colors in either kick panel and see if they go where they should go. If that looks good, open up the fuse box in the engine bay and see what is missing there.

The hardest part, of course, is from kick panel through the door harness to mirror. If heated mirror was not even an option in your year, then none of this probably is in your car.

Thanks,
If there is a fuse spot, ima wired it up, and buy the mirror to do this, its really annoying having frozen mirrors in the morning.

Not sure if the 97 has that. I just looked through the 97-2000 Canadian brochures. I couldn't find any mention of heated mirror until 1999 where it states that the 4 cylinders don't have heated mirror but all the V6 models do.

notice where he's posting from guys, my Canadian spec '99 limited has them, but no separate button or anything it's just wired to the front defrost button, i know they work becuase in the morning i turn on the window defrost when i warm it up and when i come back out later my mirrors are bone dry and clean.

(side note)

I pm'ed you. I'll email it to you when you give me your email address. As a sidenote, I actually got the brochures from Toyota Canada directly. I just emailed them and told them I'm looking for a 1996-2000 4Runner and wanted the brochures so I can know what I should expect. They didn't have the 1996 but emailed me the others. The 2001-2002 spec sheet, I found it on Toyota.ca website by typing in various web addresses to find it.
