Howdy all,luv the site! Thanks for all the help. Finished doing new rotors and pads in the front,now time for the rear drums. Just looking for a quick review of doing this job,trying to avoid costly errors. I would also like to swap out the fluid as well. Does anyone know the part number from Toyota for the rear shoes? Sorry for the newbie questions,I did do a search in the maintence section,but never saw anything directly targeting the info I need. Thanks again.

Do yourself a favor buy a spring compression tool... Helped me greatly. Sorry I don't have the part number for the OEM shoes, but I can tell you they set me back about $85 from the dealer.

How about checking with a Toyota dealer? They can tell you their part #.

I ordered it from Amazon... here's the one I got:

I also got a set of brake pliers that helped in pulling to spring back onto the shoe during reassembly:

Actually, you might be able to just use the pliers. I think they have an end that serves as a compression/washer tool... However, the dedicated one was sooooo easy to use. It's a keeper. I'll be using a bunch on other jobs too.

thanks, just used these two links to buy these tools! I wanted to buy something known to be a good fit for a 3rd gen and these are that plus, dirt cheap, hell, cheaper than Harbor Freight.
After doing this job I've decided that a small screwdriver to hold the spring in place then grabbing it with vice grips and muscling it into it's slot beats these spring pliers by a wide margin. These spring plier are not designed to work with the Toyota drum brake and scratched up my brake shoe more than I wanted while I was fumbling around trying to get them to work. When I finally got my technique together near the end of the job it because much easier than trying to use the spring pliers.
