'98 T4R SR5 : New Owner

It's not my birthday but I finally got my 4runner after years and years of longing for this vehicle. I have gone through two Toy-Camry's (one has been donated and the other will be sold).

I'll put up a pic later. Its a burgandy SR5-V6, no running boards, no sunroof, no CD but premium speakers, aftermarket alarm (no auto start), OEM roof-rack, on 22's with OEM alloy rims.

I have never "fixed" up a car but need help and suggestions.

I really want the running boards :biggrin2: but I see most of you guys take them off. Best price I got for install was $350 (parts/labor). I would also like to paint it from Burgandy to dark-grey. I'd also like the fender flares but do they make those in metal/steel so they mach the front/back bumper.

I really want to convert it from a SR5 to a Limited look.

Anyone done this?

I don't know about converting it to the limited look, but I have a 98 SR5 Desert Dune Metallic. I found a good pair of Smittybilt Nerf bars on Ebay for $180 shipped. They look great with the chrome bumpers. Do some searching, they look way better than the running boards do. I'll post a pic tomorrow.

I would love a sunroof; I think I would have to wait to do that down the road due to the price and it would have to be top notch quality work.

The interior is the dark blue, which is okay. I would like to incorporate the wood grain!

I'd also like to do something with the grill and change the lights.

Since the car was equipped without CD, if I got an aftermarket CD would I have to remove the OEM cassette/radio?

I agree, sunroof can wait. I always have mine close anyway unless I don't care about my hair!

I would say no to woodgrain since you have blue interior. I don't know if you would be up for it, but maybe something sportier such as carbon fiber if you're looking for a dash kit. Not sure what is available aftermarket wise, I just don't think woodgrain would look good with blue.
As far as a grill, that is easy to install. Even a novice such as yourself can do that with a simple flat head and pliers. It pretty much just snaps out in most cases. There may be a couple bolts, but I don't remember any when I was taking mine out. A billet grill, clear corners and clear bumpers lenses will look nice with maroon. Bulbs are easy as well, I'm sure you already know that. Hyper white looks good, but make sure to use amber in the signal lights. Some cops are fussy about that. I'd leave the tail lights alone. Maybe a bull bar would be nice.
Post some pics, lets see that thing. That will help with ideas. Get them up!
