Hello and good day. Two wks ago I was driving to work and noticed that cooled air was blowing out and the thermo gage in the car went to red right away. So I replaced the thermo and everything was ok. Now I am leeking large amounts of coolant and it seems that it is coming from almost the center of the car..more towards the back area where the tranny and ehgine meet. Does anyone have any idea what is going on? Take care

x2 either a line for the heater core or if you have the rear heater then it could be one of those lines as well.
Check your oil for signs of coolant and also your coolant for signs of oil. If you see that then it is a blown head gasket. My guess is the bad line though.

If you have an extendable mirror, you can look at the underside of the thermo housing and the water pump housing too. The water pump also has a weep hole that can sometimes leak and you should see a pool on the "shelf" directly underneath them if it's leaking from either of those places. From there the coolant can travel backward toward the tranny housing and appear that it is coming out of the back of the engine when it's really coming from the front (ask me how I know).

I would bet it's your rear heater lines. They corrode and leak like a seive over time. On my '99, they've been bypassed. Just take the send off before it goes into the hard lines and stick it back into the return. If that's it obviously.

I just had that happen. It was coming out of the water pump but with the wind or whatever it would stream back to the tranny area. The first few times I couldn't see anything wet around the pump area, just toward the back of the engine and tranny. I let it idle for about 20 minutes and saw it start to pool under the w.p. Replaced it and no more leaks. The rear heater lines are a very good possibility too.
