99 4Runner eating turn signal fuses

Guys, last night driving home my turn signal fuse blew. No big deal, I stock extras in the garage. I replaced it, checked it and everything was fine for about a minute then it blew again. I replaced the 2nd one and same issue... Have any of you guys had this problem and how did you deal with it?

Do you have the Toyota trailer wiring harness on it? (That is, not an aftermarket item like Hopkins 43415.)

I believe these were installed at the port in conjunction with installing the Toyota trailer hitch.

If so, there's a "black box" (which most likely has just a few diodes and nothing more sophisticated) mounted under the left rear plastic panel. (no fun to access, but there you are), This box converts 6 wires from the vehicle to 4 wires of a standard trailer connector.

Unplug this item and see if your problem goes away. That these items are NLA from Toyota speaks, I believe, to their high failure rate.

I had the problem you're having. I removed the Toyota item and installed a Hopkins kit.

I also had issues with the stock black box. Replaced with the Hopkins and have no issues.

I need to thank both David and Yella for their insight and responses. While the little black box was not in the panel behind the tail light, I did find it underneath by the hitch itself wrapped in a whole roll of electrical tape.

After some time with my knife and a few curse words for the jackwagon that stuck it down there, I managed to cut it free and my turn signals are back to normal again.
