So I've been hearing this noise that sounds like it's coming from either my transmission or rear diff. It idles fine but when I get the car up to 25+mph, it sounds like it's running at 5-7k RPM's but the RPM's are still normal. It just sounds like I'm going really fast on the highway.
So I took it by Firestone today and the guy was nice enough to just hop in and go around the block with me to listen to it and he said that it sounds like the transmission. We didn't get to the bottom of the issue because Firestone is unable to work on a transmission and I didn't want to spend $100 on a diagnostic for no reason at all.
So my question is; Has anyone had the same sort of issue before? (I know it's hard to figure out the issue with just my above description) I hope it's something easy/cheap like low fluid in the rear diff or something with my air/fuel ratio. I just find it hard to believe that I would be having transmission issues on a 99 4runner that only has 90k miles.
Any would be appreciated. I live in the east LA area. Any recommendations on who to take it to would be appreciate as well. Thanks!
