99 Headlights on 96?

Hey everyone, Just bought a 1996 4Runner 4x4 Limited and I really want to improve the looks of the front end. Just a couple questions...

If I buy the 99 Black JDM headlights and corners on ebay will they bolt right up to my 96?

Anyone got any links for buying a chrome toyota emblem instead of the gold one?

My drivers side leather seat is pretty cracked up, anyone know of a good and fairly cheap reappoulstering kit?

Whoever had the car before me put in a viper remote start and alarm system. The dealer i bought it from didnt know about it and offered to have it professionally removed at their expense. Should I just let them remove it or try and get new remote buttons?

One other thing... Anyone selling the power seat buttons? I guess over the course of time my passanger seat's buttons got removed/broken. I just need the tan cover things. Anyone know where to get those or should I just try a dump?

the '99 headlights might fit for a '96 since it's the same model. but why not find the '96 ones? or just take out the lens and spray paint it black?

i unscrewed my front emblem and spray it black. i could of spray it chrome but i had a grill behind the emblem so i wanted the grill to stand out.

don't know how to fix the leather seat. sorry

are you trying to install another alarm system in or you just want to take it out so other people would deactivate the alarm? if you just want it to be deactivate it, try to figure out to unplug the alarm system only.

and no, i don't have power seats so i don't have the buttons for it. sorry!
 
Oh the headlights i was looking at are completely clear on the front, not the foggy glass stuff. Plus mine are a little Yelloish from age.

The problem is the alarm is installed but i have no remotes and I have no idea how they rigged it. I was driving it home from the dealer yesterday and stopped for gas and the car wouldnt startso I checked under the dash and found all the viper stuff. I played with the boxes a little bit and the freakin truck started without the key in the ignitioin, lol. So i was wondering if I should just have it professionally removed on the dealer's dime or try and get it working ok.

Yes i beleive it is a direct swap. However not for the tail lights(if your were intrested) I tried it, and i was also looking at the black JDM heads on ebay. Ive heard a couple of people say theres stray light and the beam pattern isnt right. But ive also heard good things as well.

The 96' head lights compared to the 99' are very different in looks, the 96' is frosted and old looking and the 99' are clear and newer/nicer looking. Plus getting the glass off the headlights is a hassle, tried that and it only chipped them :bash:

This you can buy from a toyota dealer near you. Also one will come up every once in a while in the Classified section, i know i bought one on here a while back.

Yikes! that whole starting with out the key thing, yes i would have the dealer take it out. I would also install a new alarm system to your liking. When i first got my runner, the alarms went haywire and i had to get it uninstalled with in 2 days of owning it :(
 
Ok cool so the ones on ebay are ok then? I mean.. they will fit and look better than the ones I have now? I'm not a real picky guy... the slight differences in the beam pattern between real jdm and the cheapo's, in my opinion, doesnt warrent the cost of the real thing.

As for the alarm system... I would remove it myself but I'm going to let the professionals do it as long as the dealer has the bill, know what I mean?

I was also thinking about getting the precut tint on ebay for the front two windows. They said that 20% is the closest match to the stock tint in the back. Anyone ever do this before? Is it still really hard to tint even if the tint is precut with a laser?

exactly my thoughts on it, i couldnt tell a different through the beam pattern on that wall. I personally will pick up a pair as soon as the funds come in.

If its precut and your putting it on yourself, then get a tint kit from walmart or pepboys, it will come with a squege? and a razor i think, i dont know if you know how to do it and all. I figure the hardest part would be lining it up perfectly. other than that i dont see an issue with it, normally its hard to cut it to size but the laser kills that problem.

20% is the same as the factory tint on the back, yes, but it will be lighter due to light coming in through your front windshield. 2 options here, you can tint the front 2 at 15% or you can put a tint banner across the front windshield which will block some light from coming in the front and in turn making it harder so see in the side. how much is it?
 
If you don't want any issues, just swap the '96 front lights w/ the '99 or later front lights. It definitely modernizes the front look of the truck. You can always buy the '99 or later bumper as well. This, however, is not a bolt-on but any body shop can do this for you pretty easily. There are a few on sale at yotatech and the one seller I recommend is willing to sell his for $175 shipped.

As far as the alarm, have the dealer yank it out and go to a local stereo shop for a new one. If you go directly to a stereo shop, they'll charge you to take the old one out and charge you again, for a new one. Since you don't have remotes and you don't know the quality of the install, start over.

As far as interior, there is no real cheap way to fix leather. You'd probably have to do a whole reupholster, which is not cheap. You can always get seat covers and there's a variety of these on the market.

Yeah, but it looks a helluva lot better than the stock 96-98 lights.
