99 Highlander Coils - Worth it?

I measured the height from hub center to bottom of fender on my stock 2002.

Front: 20 inches
Rear: 19 inches

Looks like some rear sag going on. I probably will go with the 99 talls in front and the OME 906 coils in the rear with Bilstein HD shock all around.

As far as tires, I prefer to gain height over width - a tire that is 2 or 3 inches taller and just an inch or so wider. I don't want wide tires sticking out past the fender. And I don't want to put on fender flares.

I had 99 tall coils that I bought new from the dealer. Small lift, only good for 265/75/16 or equivalent.

It wasn't long until I wanted more height for 285's (even as a 2WD), where I went with OME.

I got almost 2" on my '97 going to '99Tall coils but my stock '97 suspension was beat to hell too. The gain will be different for all, it's relative to how bad the stuff you're replacing is.

You make a valid point. This is why I was curious to know exactly how high the trucks with '99 talls sit.

yes, but if you are going for a "first mod", or early mod and want a little bit more aggressive look, the 99 talls will work. true "lifted" rigs (2-3.5") can keep you from getting into the parking garage at the mall, or your own home garage sometimes, but are much more of an advantage off road. however, i wheel my runner quite a bit and have taken it some places that guys with jeeps and blazer and broncos ect on 35+ tires with full lockers give me looks like im insane and crazy, and i still drive it home, so you dont have to have a big lift to wheel it. and if your just looking to make your runner look a little "bigger" or "meaner" and $$$ is tight, then buy em.

i plan on running mine for another 6 or some months while i save up for toytec front coil overs and light racing UCA, then i will offload my 99talls at that point.

This is great to know, that is the main reason I'm considering 99' talls because money is tight. If I got a OME lift, I wouldn't be able to get the tires to make it not look bad yet anyway. Thanks for the input.

Personally, NO!
Go for some Old Man Emu coils and get 3". I started at ~2"/3"(TRD,890). Great ride and nice height. This is a good area to be. CV angles will still be good (use a diff drop) and will set you apart from other stock rigs.

True story. I wheeled with a FJ Cruiser w/3" lift, me with my TRD/890 lift and I cleared obstacles that he was stuck on.

I went higher because I rock crawl and keep doing bigger obstacles.

There is a shot of my rig on NEW coils/before settling on stock size tires.

Good info here but if I could get a OME lift now I would. By the way about how much was it for your lift in total?

"Worth it" is relative to what you want them for and how much you spent once installed.

They were worth it for me - $60, bought & installed.

$60 is defiantly a worth it price

How much was my lift? It's hard to say because I have switched coils a few times now. My front has gone from TRDs to ToyTec Coilovers built on Bilstein HDs. The rear has been 809, 891, LC 9 wraps and now 861s with 5125.
