20 yr old coils - Ride height impact

Been thinking for a while I'd like to get a hair more lift up front (1" or so).

5100's are currently set at 2.5". I know I can throw on a top plate spacer but wondering about the coils. They are factory originals with 20 years/200K of use. I assume there is some sag by now (to say nothing of ride quality decline), but just how much sag is the question.

Considering a new set of OEM (not OME) coils. But obviously not worth it if the change in lift is negligible. If anyone has experience replacing an old set of factory coils with a new OEM pair, and noticed a change in ride height, I'd appreciate the input.

I had my 2003 lifted using a Rough Country 2" spacer kit just last year. The rear end was noticeably sagging afterward. I contacted Rough Country and was able to order just the rear pucks from their 3" lift kit, as the pucks from the 2" kit weren't thick enough to compensate for the 22 year old coil springs. When those were installed, that leveled off my stance. So, I'd say age indeed takes its toll on coil springs.

I just recently swapped my oem coils out on my 05 for fresh Dobinsons. I thought I was getting a 2 inch lift, but the wheel to fender distance increased from 3 inches to about 7. So in theory a 2 inch lift also compensated for 2 inches of sag over that time.

On my 03, I put 6 month old assemblies from a new gen5 4runner on the front of mine and gained quite a bit of lift. At least an inch I'd say but I'd think more. It made the truck stance look much more level so I would think new OEM springs should lift yours.

Check into FJ coils too. There are plenty of people ditching factory suspension components for after market. I think there is a thread on switching to the FJ coils, search is your friend.

[MENTION=650210]Runnin on E[/MENTION] Yep, the FJ swap is on my radar too. Was actually reading up on that when the thought of just using new OEM coils popped into my head. Exploring both now.

The single best way to dial in a ride height would be replacing f/r springs with a set rated for the height you want. It also will give you better ride quality than the 5100s with the collars adjusted up.

There are a bunch of companies making them, I went with Dobinsons since they had options for exactly what I was looking for.
