'99 Limited 4x4?

Don't worry about the starter. The price is high for that many miles, but it looks clean. Don't think it has an e-locker though.

Go check out it, don't low ball on the phone. Once you're there, flash $7k in cash with another $500 in the other pocket if they decline. Cash talks

Its a limited. It has an elocker. Absolutely most crucial inspection point of any 3rd gen auto 4x4 is the radiator. Check to see if the coolant and transfluid is fresh. If the radiator is new, ask why. The only reason why there would be new radiator is because he is on a 4runner forum or got the pink milkshake and is trying to get the best deal he can.

I learned the hard way when I thought I was getting a good deal. I didnt look close enough at the radiator. I thought they just changed the fluids so everything seems new and fresh.

I could not agree more. I bought a 99 limited Runner (6 yrs ago) and while the radiator was clean. The milkshake hit me after I got it. The starter should be no problem. Even if it goes bad, hardly anything to worry about considering the expense of the Tranny. I have replaced 2 starters on mine.

If you do buy it. Put an aftermarket tranny cooler on it ASAP. You will probably need to change the Diff fluids; change the PCV valve; Plugs and wires. Clean the MAF and the fuel filter anyway. Make sure the Timing belt and water pump has been done. If not, then you will need to get it done soon.

If you are not handy with a wrench, these things can all add up pretty quick. Even for a "clean" rig.

Finally, why is he trying to sell the truck. Is he trying to buy another car? Or was this just an extra vehicle? If he is trying to get another car and did not want to trade the truck in, then consider the Stealer didn't offer more than $5500 for it. If the above things had not been done to it, then you could offer him less based on the expected costs to get those things done.

Good luck on this one. Let us know what happens.

How do you know it has a locker?

How do you know it has a locker?

why wouldnt it. If its not there, someone took it out.

edit: brian2sun has a point. I should rephrase my earlier post. It should read, if its a limited it came with an elocker. Doesnt mean it has one from the chance someone might have swapped rear axles. Its possible.

Wrongo, bucko.

Just because it's a Limited, doesn't mean it HAS to have an elocker. It was still an option.

Just as quicksilvr said, it was an option even on the Limiteds. There is a greater chance of it having a locker because it is a limited, but not guaranteed. I saw plenty of limiteds without lockers when looking around.

Just noticed it does have a locker though going through the pics. Was on my phone earlier, but can see it better now. Can't see the button, but it has the warning label on the door.

I have seen alot of limited 98-2000 3rd gens and not one of them didnt have an elocker. If there is one that came from the factory without an elocker, I think its price should be higher due the rarity.

Im not a gambling man, but Im willing to be that this one came from the factory with an elocker.

Hmmm well I seem to be out numbered here by the CA crowd. Maybe its a CA thing where Limited didnt come with the elocker and I was not aware of it til now. Thanks for the info

However in the midwest, I have not seen a limited without an elocker not that it matters

Yeah I consider them the poor man's Limited. I personally checked out 2 99's without a locker and without 99 talls. Most 99's with the locker also had the tall springs just an FYI. I also emailed quite a few people who had limiteds and no locker. I was really close to buying one, but the guy sold it to his friend. I'm happy to say though that my limited has a locker. :guitar3:

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Called and emailed today. Still waiting on a response. A family friend just gave me their '98 Ford Explorer with 209,000 miles on it for free...so that means I can hold out longer until I get a great deal on a 4runner. Nice!

Looks good on paper

I dont think that 8k would be too much to spend on it if, once you inspected it, you found it to be in great shape. Good luck
