99 parts 96 runner

So as I have been researching and buying I have come to notice that the parts I want are designed for the 99 and up 4runners(I.E. TRD 7th injector kit & headders). Is there any reason why I could not use these parts on my 96? If so would buying a ecu and crap solve my delima?? Every bodys great ideas have got me wanting to pimp my runner but at what cost? would it be better to sell and buy a 99(though I dont care for the fat lip bumper)? Once again thanxs for all the opinion and ideas!

I'm on the same boat as you. but the time, aggravation, and money you would spend on your 4runner, your better off buying a 4runner with the options you want. i wanna get a 99-02 4runner sport or limited, but i have put my too much sweat and hard work to maintain a clean looking vehicle to just go out and trade it in. but it all comes down to what you want and what makes you happy. if its worth it to you, go and get a newer one.

I took this into heavy consideration when I was buying my 4Runner.

I found many a 96-98 for near 5k, but when I found my 99 for the same price, I stole the deal because of the long term benefit.


Granted it is base, like you said, many things are 99+ specific.

This is very similar in that I have the 2.7l instead of the 3.4l

So as much as I'd love the 3.4 over my 2.7 due to the great benefit, I've done too much to my 2.7 to give a damn lol.

So stick with what you got, make it yours.

I have a 99 with a Supercharger and I don't have the seventh injector set up but let me give you a wild ass guess... I don't think it will work. My reasoning is that the seventh injector is tied into the ECU to fire at WOT. I would guess the 2nd gen 4Runner has a different ECU.

Besides, my understanding of the seventh injector is that it is not so much for power as it is for knock protection at WOT and under load like towing and such...
