99 Problems

I have a 1999 T4R SR5 and I have a couple of problems that I am hoping to get fixed soon! I cannot seem to find a solid solution so here it goes:

1) Whenever I am in park or neutral (with the brake on), my RPM's flux up and down, up and down and then the engine dies. This cycle last approx 20 seconds before the engine dies. This will also happen when I am at a stoplight and I am in drive. But it always happens when in neutral or park. Is this a throttle body issue? Do I simply clean the throttle body out?

2) When climbing hills and accelerating, the engine seems to have a high pitch sound. The best I can describe is a "crackle" sound. Again, this is when I accelerate usually when on a hill.

I have a couple of thoughts on this problems, but wanted to check with everyone to see what they thought before I went out and spent any $$$! Any thoughts on these would be extremely helpful! Thanks for the help!

Check your TPS for the stalling.

Brakes could be rotors, pads, or bearings.

when the idle fluxuates up and down its called "hunting" or "serching" depending on who your talking to. all your computer is trying to do is find the proper air/fuel ratio to run correctly. so you could start with cleaning your MAF, making sure your air filter is clean. your O2 senser may be on its way out. your Idle air control coult be on its way out. not to freak you out but honestly it may be any sensor dealing with air/fuel. or it could be as simple as a really dirty air filter. so start with the simple things that would would be considered general maintenance. and let us know how that works out for ya.

My girlfriend's Jeep Cherokee did that and was the idle air control valve.

True story; I tried to get that song played at our wedding. The wife didn't go for it...but the song was referring to a b*tch was NOT a problem...ie she is not a b*tch. Oh well. Can't win them all.

As far as your truck goes I'd suspect some type of vaccuum line leak or egr valve. Check to see if your hoses are cracked, loose, etc. Soapy water will do the trick (and give your engine cavity that freshly washed look). Particularly check the hoses around your brake booster and intake recirculator.
