99 Rear End to a 96???

As you all know I'm parting a truck out. I have a 99 Limited(2WD) that is the parts truck. Will the rear end bolt right up to a 96? I have a guy that wants it local but he keep wanting to know if the Vin's will match or something like that. He want to know if they will fit. Thoughts guys? I'm thinking yes. Responses sooner than later would help also.

yes.. As long as all the stuff matches like ABS and gear ratio. Even if he doesn't have ABS he can run an abs axle and abs rings on the shafts they just wont do anything. If he does have ABS and he's getting a non ABS axle then obviously he wont have ABS in the rear anymore.

FYI , the newer axle has two rubber brake lines on it while the old on will have one single line.

You will need to swap brake lines.

A key thing would be if the gear ratios are the same.
Also, is this "local guy's" truck a 2WD too?
