I am a newbie but I came across the site a few weeks ago and think it is fantastic. Here is my intro, I have a 99 4Runner w/ 4wd and the 2.7 liter 4-cylinder engine with the Automatic Trans. I've had it since new and it has been living up to being the legend that they are known for - I have 240,000 miles on it and have only had Oil, Brakes, and Tires done on it. It has hauled tons of stuff cross country and it doesn't show for the miles at all. I will get pics up sometime later but you all have probably seen tons of these out there - its Desert Dune with the Steel Wheels.
Anyways, sorry to have bored most of you....I have a question though, I have the original radio in it has stopped working, I'm thinking of putting a new one in myself - I know its been talked about a lot on here but I was wondering what types of decks do people reccomend (leaning toward an entry or mid-range Alpine) and I have two Alpine Type-S Speakers...how hard is it to get the door panels off the front?
The truck is basic, even to the extent the windows are roll-down, it has the flexible permenent antenna, and doesn't even have the factory clock in it. (except for the tailgate glass which has the power switch). I love the 4Runner though, it isn't worth much but its better than half the crap being made today and one reason I am thinking of doing the work myself is that I want to learn how to do it out of my own interest, I know if I paid an extra few bucks I could just have it done but where is the fun in that.
Sorry if this has been talked about before, but if anyones got any ideas - send them this way.
btw, just my opinion but Toyota should have offerred the 2010 4Runners with a Turbo Diesel since they dropped the V8s.....a Diesel Runner seems like it would be an ideal setup.
