B]Looking for a deal on a good '99 SR5, 3.4/auto, beaten up by hail? Should it stay or go? I had planned to keep it for another 3-4 yrs. [/B] It's white, sunroof, cloth, auto, 4x4. NEVER been wrecked...salvage title will be due to some hail body damage (not awful, but enough dents to total it). I was planning to keep this truck for at least another 50k, and might still.
I just settled with the insurance co, when they totalled the SR5 due to hail damage. It has approx 150k miles. Was in very good condition before hail. now the hood is ugly, and the roof too, but who looks there? (especially with a Baja type rack). There are some slight dents on sides, but since it's white, they're hard to see. This would make a great project truck maybe. The engine and trans are solid...smooth, don't burn oil, compression seems very good. Never been wrecked or had body damage.
I have two choices: keep it and put some $ back into it, or sell it and look for something else. (That's the hard part...find a good low mile one that isn't a fortune, it seems.)
From what I know, it needs:
-new shocks and at least rear springs but maybe front too.
-new brakes (am gonna do brembo rotors, not the tundra upgrade, if i keep)
-full engine/trans tuneup service
-valve adjust and maybe valve cover gasket
-tires have about 10% left...gonna get new AT Revos if I keep.
-the clearcoat on the factory alloys is getting bad.
I am the 2nd owner, bought it 5 years ago with 90k on it out of AZ. Never been on salted roads, very little rust underneath. Faithful oil changes and fluid changes, flushes etc. Timing belt done at about 100k, iirc. Interior is very good. One minor chip on froint windshield that can be rock doctored i think.
The damage is cosmetic, and with a new or like new hood, it will fix the appearance a lot.
I have no idea what it is worth. Best offer? What should I expect... Is $4k unreasonable?
