'99 SR5 Trouble Starting

Been having trouble starting my '99 for about 2 months. Thought it was battery problem, but even after replacing the battery I'm having trouble. When I start up there doesn't appear to be any dimming in the lights, the engine just won't turn at all. Not even a click. After about the 5th or 6th try, it starts up like there was never a problem. My check engine light just came on for an 02 sensor (California emmissions). I don't think that's a factor though. Any ideas? Thanks.

DTC? That's the computer codes right. If so I had 2, but one was the 02 sensor and the other was a degraded Cat Conv, which I was told is due to the 02 sensor. Although, I haven't had the codes checked since I replaced the battery. Any ideas on how I could self-diagnose a worn ignition switch?

I had a similar problem with my 1996 Acura 3.2 TL ....

Sometimes when I would turn the key, nothing would happen. No dimming, no clicking, nothing. I would just keep turning it 10 or 20 times and eventually it would just start as if nothing was wrong. It would only do this for about 3 or 4 straight days once every 2 months.

I never got the problem fixed because it really didn't bother me that much... and I knew I was getting rid of the vehicle soon anyways. My mechanic told me it was probably the started that needed replaced. He checked everything else that it would be --- and that was the only piece left. The problem with the 3.2 TLs is that you have to remove the front axle to get to the starter ---- and I never felt like paying for him to do that.

If there is no dimming ,then the starter is not drawing enough current to operate. This done by the starter solenoid.

Check the contacts in the solenoid, they can be bought by themselves, cheap and fairly easy to repair.

Good luck!
