'99 Tacoma Brush Guard?

My buddy had a '99 Tacoma (Toyota bought it back from the recall), and wants to sell me his brush guard. First of all, would it mount up to my '98 4runner, and secondly, is $50 a good price? Not sure how bad it is, lets say $50 for minimal rust for now. Thanks, this is step 1 to moving towards diamond plate bumpers!

If the Tacoma ARB fits to 3rd gen 4runner I think the chassis are pretty same. Should work.
Can't you try it on before you make the purchase?

Also remember these brush guards will multiply the damage at an impact.

The mounts should be the same. I sold my "fat lip" style brush guard to a Tacoma owner over craigslist. I told him to give me a call if it ended up not working out, I never got a call so I'm assuming it worked. That's a good price as long as its not too rusted out.

I believe it's only black, and I can try it before I buy it, can try it at the fire house haha. And How will it multiply the damage? Are you saying to the frame? yikes...

Thanks, and I will ask my Lieutenant how much it would cost him to weld me up a custom bumper just as a comparison, he's a cool guy, works on heavy machinery. Called the 4runner a "hot rod" at an MVA call last night, haha.

You may have to weld it on, I'm almost positive the bolt holes wont line up. It'll still look good though

If a car backs into the front of your truck it will only damage the front bumper if you don't have the brush guard. But with the brush guard, it will move backwards directly hitting the grill/hood/front lights/corner lights.

I can back that up with over 10 years in the collision repair business. I have never had to fix any truck or suv with an armor or plate bumper that had more than a minor scratch, but I have seen many nice older trucks and suvs totalled from damage that would have been minor if it weren't for the brushguard.

Well, I guess I'm DEFINITELY talking to the Lieutenant now, I'm sure he could weld me up a nice diamond plate set, maybe even sliders? I think he's the one that helped lift ksneubec's 4runner and fab sliders (T4ROTM May 2005)
